Being a CEO is often called “the loneliest job in the world” because, when you’re at the top, you don’t have mentors to guide you or peers to commiserate with.
While you might not think of yourself as a king (or queen) there are parallels to be drawn between leading a country and leading a company. You might not literally be seated on a throne, separated from everyone else, but there are days when it can feel like that.
While being a leader has its perks, the biggest drawback to being a leader is you never get to take a break from being a leader. Your team will always look up to you.
Which begs the question: whom do you look up to?
This is why masterminds and business coaches exist, but at Vertex we decided to take a slightly different approach to creating an environment that supports independent financial advisors.
As helpful as coaches and masterminds can be, we wanted to create a work environment that is always supportive, rather than limiting support to one hour a week.
Anyone who has benefited from coaching or a mastermind group knows you tend to leave each session feeling inspired and motivated, but just a few days at the office can grind you down, leaving you feeling tired again.
What if you could work in an environment that always provided that level of support and understanding without losing your independence as a business owner?
That’s what we aim to do with our affiliate advisors.
Some of the benefits of joining our affiliate program include:
Collaboration
Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. You might excel at analyzing data and using it to create a financial strategy, but struggle with technology.
Others might be great with technology, but struggle when it comes to creating a strategy.
One of the downsides to being an independent advisor is the feeling that you have to excel at all aspects of being a financial advisor for your clients.
We get around this by partnering with a variety of independent advisors, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. This gives our advisors the opportunity to lean on each other if a client needs help with something specific that doesn’t fall into their area of expertise.
Mentorship
In addition to pulling in other advisors to help with client work, just having other financial advisors around that you can go to for help and to pick their brain is a critical part of your development as a financial professional.
Successful professionals often cite their mentor as having been a crucial part of their path to success.
Unlike a business coach, who usually works with business owners in a variety of industries, a mentor knows what it’s like to try to navigate your industry. They are familiar with the unique challenges you will face, which means they can give you more relevant advice and you don’t have to spend time explaining to them the ins and outs of the financial world.
Being a Mentor
As valuable as it is to have a mentor, it’s important not to underestimate the value of being a mentor. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience, and most mentors report getting at least as much out of their mentorship experience as the mentees receive, if not more.
By joining our affiliate program, not only do you provide yourself with the opportunity to be a mentee, you also get the opportunity to be a mentor.
A Supportive Environment
As helpful as it can be to talk with a business coach or a mastermind group once a week, sometimes problems come up and you need help in the moment, not next week.
That’s when our advisors benefit from having a community of like-minded financial advisors ready to help at a moment’s notice.
When you’re part of the Vertex family, you don’t have to wait to get help, and neither do your clients.
